Evercade Cartridges Explained: everything you need to know

Blaze Entertainment’s handheld Evercade EXP and home console Evercade VS both use custom, officially licensed cartridges with collections of classic arcade games and the occasional cute indie hit.

You get a good number of games with either the Evercade EXP or the Evercade VS, but if you want to add more games to your retro Evercade collection, you’ll need to buy more cartridges. So, it’s helpful that Evercade cartridges work on both the EXP and the VS.

But are these cartridges for Evercade worth the money? What kind of publishers does Evercade work with to bring its curated collections to cartridge? How much will they cost, and how many games will one cartridge hold? I can answer all of these questions and more in our helpful explainer. Read on to find out all you need to know about the cartridges for the Evercade.

Evercade Cartridges: price and availability

A single Evercade cartridge usually costs $19.99, £17.99, or AU$35.99, and you can buy them on Evercade’s website and at major online stores like Amazon. Of course, the availability of cartridges depends on how many are in stock, and that price point can change; I’ve seen cartridges go for slightly less or more than the recommended retail price.

If you want to add some Evercade cartridges to your collection, it’s a good idea to check with more than one store to see if you can get them for a little less. This is easy to do with Evercade’s website, which has links to all stores that sell its games.

What does an Evercade cartridge look like?

If you like the classic, chunky look of cartridges, you’ll like the style that Evercade chose. For comparison, they are shorter than a Game Boy cartridge, but the rounded edge makes them a little thicker. This goes well with the sloped design of the Evercade EXP and fits perfectly into the cartridge slot of the handheld.

The cartridges don’t look all that fancy, but that’s fine. They look the same as the EXP and the VS and are made of solid plastic that can withstand wear and tear from long-term use. Each Evercade cartridge also has its logo, and the graphics for the game and publisher make it easy to tell them apart.

What Games Do Evercade Cartridges Have?

Different publishers make different compilations of Evercade cartridges, but most share a few things. Most Evercade cartridges have a bunch of old arcade games on them. On average, you’ll get six to eight games per cartridge, but exceptions exist.

The Codemasters Collection, for example, has a whopping 17 games, which is why I’d recommend it with all my heart, even for movies that will always be remembered, like Sensible Soccer and Cannon Fodder.

Not only Codemasters is making its old games playable on Evercade devices. You can buy games from classic developers like Atari, Data East, Interplay, The Bitmap Brothers, etc.

Some cartridges, like the Namco Museum, Intellivision, Commodore 64, Worms, and a few great indie grab bags, have been put together well. Since more cartridges are coming out throughout the year, Evercade will continue down for a while.

How many Evercade cartridges are there?

At the moment, you can buy more than 35 Evercade cartridges from retailers who sell them. All of these things mean that Evercade now supports more than 300 games. And since more cartridges are coming, that number is only going to go up.

What types of games are available on Evercade?

Evercade has a wide range of games, from classic console and arcade games to modern 8-bit and 16-bit indie gems. There are far too many games to list here. This makes Evercade consoles great for short games that you can pick up and play or longer games that you can really get into.

Does Evercade come with games?

Yes. The Evercade EXP comes with 18 Capcom titles pre-loaded onto the system. There’s also a cartridge containing six games from developer Irem in the box. The Evercade VS packs in two cartridges from Data East and Arc System Works’ Technos brand, offering 18 games in total between them.
